Skåne University Hospital

[edit]

I would appreciate help with editing this article due to a "conflict of interests" since I work at Skåne University Hospital. I would like to complete the article about Skåne University Hospital. The encyclopaedic text about the hospital is very short. I also am doubtful to the relevans and how neutral and specific the part "Security measures at Malmö" is, when describing a hospital in an encyclopaedic article.

For a start I suggest this additional texts/facts. I am well aware of the need of more information as History and hope some other skilled person will contribute.

  Edit request partially implemented

  1. Green tickY The information covering the basics such as employees, specialties, and the hospital's relationship with Lund were added.
  2. Red XN The article's sections on gun violence and patient family violence were either omitted or else described more accurately, according to the sources.
  3. Red XN The figures for gunshot victims were omitted, as individual statistics on patients treated at the hospital is not the purpose of the article.
  4. Red XN The typical day section was omitted.

Please note for future reference that additional sources coming from outside the hospital are preferred to sources which are the hospital itself or are affiliated with the hospital.

Request edit

[edit]

I still need some help editing, since I question the relevance of one part in the encyclopaedic article about Skåne University Hospital.

I question the relevance of the part “Workplace safety”. In what way is this part describing the subject Skåne University Hospital in a relevant, neutral and specific encyclopaedic article?
The subject references and external links leads to news media. I suggest this part to be moved to an own encyclopaedic subject in Wikipedia describing a social problem in the society.

I also noticed that reference no 1 “Historik” is linked to Skåne University Hospital’s archived web. Let me know if I can contribute with historic facts from other sources about Skåne University Hospital, former Lund University Hospital and UMAS Malmö University Hospital.

Thank You for helping editing the article. PåBacken (talk) 14:34, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am not the editor who originally added the section on security concerns at the hospital six years ago so I cannot speak to the original impetus which placed it there. I only modified the information in response to your COI edit request last month, so that it was worded in a more neutral manner. The editor who originally added the information six years ago, 1Kwords, continues to be an active editor, so I suggest you discuss your concerns with them first, either here, or by contacting them on their talk page, which can be reached by following this link. In the unlikely event that they do not respond either here or on their talk page, please feel free to reopen the request. Thank you!  Spintendo  19:06, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • The information added is WP:V verified by WP:RS sources. In what way does the text not correctly correspond to the given source? How is workplace safety irrelevant to the subject of this hospital? Are staff irrelevant to a hospital? No hospital can function without staff. The Wikipedia:Neutral point of view policy states that All encyclopedic content on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all of the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic.. Per WP:PRESERVE, reliable information which is relevant to an article can be re-added if deleted. 1Kwords (talk) 20:41, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia claims to be a reference work that describes, in a relevant, specific and neutral way, different categories.

Since no other hospital in Sweden has similar content about threats and violence, even though for example Karolinska and Sahlgrenska have the same problems, the content can not be regarded as either relevant or neutral. If it was, why do no other similar employers, with similar or much worse problems, have this content? For reference, look at Skånetrafiken, for example. How does the general public and more specifically visitors to Skåne University Hospital benefit from this information? Why should not Skåne university hospital have more information about its core business, history etc. as other hospitals do?

As an employer, the hospital takes employer safety most seriously, and has taken actions to support the staff. We do not wish to cover up problems and do not suggest that all the content about threats should be erased. But the section on threats and violence is disproportionate and appears as a political response that does not contribute to the encyclopaedic description of Skåne University Hospital. Your points adressed in turn:
  • Bringing up articles for other hospitals is covered under WP:OTHERSTUFF. There is nothing stopping you from adding WP:V material from WP:RS to articles for other hospitals.
  • What do you mean when you write "we"? If several people are using your account, that is likely a violation of WP:SOCK per The general rule is one editor, one account.
  • The article can be extended with more information about core business and history - if you have information in WP:RS sources then simply go ahead and WP:FIXIT.
  • Wikipedia is WP:NOTGUIDEBOOK for visiting the hospital.
  • Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a work in progress - nobody has suggested the article is finished as it is. Nobody has argued against adding more information.

  • Mentioning other hospitals in Sweden, was to compare and show how an encyclopaedic article describing hospitals can be written in a relevant, interesting, neutral and specific way. I have no desire to change anything in other Wikipedia articles.
  • I have stated that I due to conflict of interests, need help concerning irrelevant information.I assumed it was OK to propose updates in the article too - although this is not the main issue to me. I understand that there are other skilled Wikipedia editors with special interest and knowledge that can provide relevant information about the Skåne University Hospital.

Note: I still haven’t got any answer and still question, the relevance of the Workplace safety-part when describing a university hospital encyclopaedic. This part gives undue weight to a particular viewpoint.

  • Using “we” instead of “I” in my answer does neither indicate nor mean that PåBacken is more than one person. This account is created and used by me only since I assumed it was necessary to have an account when asking for help with editing this particular article on Wikipedia.
  • I question the part Workplace safety and its relevancy, and I still am an employee at the Skåne University Hospital and hence, as I have mentioned several times, I ask for help due to Wikipedias rules concerning COI, primary concerning the non-relevant part about violence and threats.

PåBacken (talk) 15:35, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The information is relevant because a reliable source has published it.
  • Workplace safety is relevant because with more than 10 000 employees, it's a major employer in the south-west Scania region.
  • The source hasn't been incorrectly cited in the article.
  • In fact, the security coordinator of the hospital was at one point being misrepresented as "a nurse" in the article. If the security coordinator and the Sydsvenskan editor at the hospital think this is important enough to write about, clearly enWP can agree on this. It is therefore not WP:UNDUE weight.
  • Violence at SUS Malmö has been written about in "Dagens Medicin". It is a well-published phenomenon and therefore not undue.
  • Deleting reliably sourced material is a violation of WP:PRESERVE.
  • Finally, I would encourage PåBacken to contribute to articles for which there is no conflict of interest.
Have a nice weekend. 1Kwords (talk) 09:29, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do not argue against the relevance of the content as an own subject on Wikipedia. I argue against the relevance as a part of encyclopedic information under the subject/headline Skane University Hospital.
In an article describing crime that puts employees in the public sector at risk, this content could definitely be regarded as relevant.
Since this is not a problem specific to Skane University hospital, but affects several other employers just as much, I still consider this a violation of the requirements of neutral, relevant content. PåBacken (talk) 15:44, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Other employers are irrelevant to this article per WP:OTHERSTUFF. This talk page is about this article only. If you are uninterested in contributing to and improving those articles - it is better to leave them out of the argument since you only care about this little article.
  • Since you are bringing up other stuff ... let me provide a counter-example: every hospital on earth has patients. Should therefore no article about a hospital list the number of patients? There is no WP guideline which requires information about a subject to only list unique features to any one subject.
  • Sources have been neutrally represented in the article. It is a well-published phenomenon and per the next bullet point, also commented on in several reliable sources and experts. It is therefore due weight.
  • Employees at hospitals in Scania are facing levels of violence which are starting to near the levels of police according to an expert interviewed by SVT. Also levels of violence against hospital staff is higher in Scania than in other parts of Sweden. An editor of Wikipedia simply can't argue it's undue weight, irrelevant or non-neutral in the face of overwhelming expertise published in reliable sources.
